Club rides

Rides are most commonly on Wednesdays and Saturdays but Sundays and Bank Holidays also often figure. As we grow we are seeking to offer a greater variety of rides and are recruiting more ride leaders to help with that objective.
Because of our desire to support club members we do not drop riders who may be feeling a bit weary or are not quite up to the speed of the group. No-one gets left behind.

Rides start, normally, between 9am and 9.30 and we have an app to facilitate awareness of the rides that are available and how to register. We expect rides to return around lunchtime unless a special ride is posted. For example we have ridden a couple of times into the Cotswolds this year and they are likely to get back later in the afternoon.

Our membership is quite large and to cater for all speeds we split them into 5 groups. Group A is the fastest whilst Group E is the most sedate. All bikes are acceptable (including E-bikes) but most of the members use standard road bikes.

To help us (and you) differentiate between the suggested pace of each group the following are the kind of average speeds that will be achieved. They vary considerably within each group, dependent on length, weather and how much cake may have been eaten. It is not uncommon for the average speed to be below that indicated for the group.

• Group A: 28kph+ or 17.4mph
• Group B: 26-28kph or 16-17.4mph
• Group C: 24-26kph or 14.9-16mph
• Group D: 21-24kph or 13-14.9mph
• Group E: Up to 21kph or 13mph

Please bear this in mind; the club is there for its members and we provide the facility for you to enjoy cycling and receive all of the many benefits it provides. Ride destinations, speeds and style are therefore open to debate about what works and what doesn’t. When you become a member your voice will be one of those which helps us decide how we develop in the future.
